Bloggers to be treated similar to press in accessing EU institutions

Bloggers could have access to the European Parliament like journalists for covering information on Europe. At the moment the European Institutions are studying how to regulate such access.

Today the European Parliament Spokesman and Director for Media Jaume Duch has confirmed to Spanish Euroblog “La Oreja de Europa” in a digital meeting by El Mundo, that bloggers shall have a treatment “similar” to journalists. Duch believes that journalists and blogger are different, but both help connect people to the European Parliament. For this reason the EU institutions are considering to apply the rules of access for the press also to bloggers.  It is not an issue that is being considered only by the European Parliament, he adds. Duch is confident that an agreement with Commission and Council could be taken on the matter. “It’s yet too soon for announcing a result. But the willingness is there”, he tweeted.
